BENCH WARRANT - MASSENA - Village police picked up Cesar A. Rodriguez, of 587 South Main St., Massena, on a bench warrant at 12:16 a.m. Saturday on Main Street.
The warrant, signed by Acting Massena Village Justice James M. Crandall on Jan. 15, alleged Rodriguez had failed to report to probation as directed. He was arraigned on the warrant by Massena Town Justice Gerald P. Sharlow and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $500 cash or $1,000 bail.
St. Lawrence County Probation Department officials said Rodriguez was directed to report to the probation office for an appointment on Dec. 18, but he failed to appear and reportedly had not called or reported to his probation officer since that time, missing the weeks of Dec. 27 and Jan. 3, according to a uniform court report dated Jan. 6.
Rodriguez had been charged with third-degree assault at 8:58 p.m. Oct. 12 after he was picked up on East Orvis Street. Police said the charge stemmed from an incident on Sept. 16 at the Delmar Tavern when he reportedly punched John W. Holmes, 22, of Massena. Holmes told police he went to confront a man who was yelling at a couple of females when he was reportedly punched in the side of the face from behind by Rodriguez. Holmes reportedly suffered a broken jaw.
Village police had also charged Rodriguezwith fourth-degree criminal mischief and two counts of making graffiti July 4. Rodriguez allegedly spray painted graffiti on the exterior of Spaulding Pool, North Main Street; McDonalds, South Main Street; and On A Roll Deli, North Main Street; in June. Police said damage to the buildings was estimated to be over $500.
