POTSDAM - Veterans who have honorably and selflessly served our nation are welcome to come and adopt a pet from the Potsdam Humane society for free with an approved adoption form.

With the support of community members, PHS has created its own program, “Pets for Vets.” All veterans, active or retired, will have the adoption fees waived with an approved adoption application.

The Canton VFW Post 1231 has matched donated funds to help kick off the program. All memorials for Anne Ellis have also been directed to the Pets for Vets Fund. Presently there is $2,450 available to pay for these adoptions.

PHS hopes that interested persons and veteran groups in the community will help this fund stay solvent as it continues to be used, so that all veterans will be served.

It is the Humane Society’s hope that many of our young service men and women coming home from war, might find comfort and transitioning help in the unconditional love of dog or cat. PHS wants to give back to those who have served our country.

“Bubba Chubba,” a three year old Pit Bull mix, is hoping that he might be one of the animals sponsored in this new program, but he knows that all of the adoptable animals at the shelter are available under this program. To find out more information on PHS’s Pets for Vets program, please call the shelter at 315-265-3199.

To make a contribution to the fund, you may mail a check to the Potsdam Humane Society, with “Pets for Vets” on the memo line. It will be saved for that purpose.

Check the PHS website at www.potsdamhumanesociety.org, email them at potsdamhumanesociety@verizon.net, or phone 315-265-3199 for more information about “Pets for Vets” or any other program.
