CANTON - A set of multi-year goals designed to guide the village’s future will be presented by Mayor Mary Ann Ashley at tonight’s village board meeting.
The mayor will discuss the board’s objectives during a Powerpoint presentation at the 7 p.m. meeting in the municipal building, 60 Main St.
“This provides a vision, a path to move us forward,” Ms. Ashley said. “The board is really excited.”
The priorities were identified by trustees during a Dec. 30 strategic planning session. The document provides a framework for seven major areas: communication, financial, public safety, infrastructure, business and economic development, shared services and recreation. Details will be released this evening.
With a roadmap in hand, the village should be more effective at achieving its goals, Ms. Ashley said.
”We’ve established the needs of the village. Once you establish needs, they can be addressed,” she said. “We need to be visionary and strategic in our planning. In order to do that, you have to set goals and objectives.”
A presentation from Jason A. Clark, of Clark Consulting Group, Norfolk, is also scheduled for Tuesday’s meeting. He will discuss solar power opportunities for the village. Agenda items include discussion of student internships and community based learning, the golf course food service contract agreement and the Canton Central and Potsdam Central Merger Feasibility Study.
