SLC girls turn back Potsdam; Canton outscores Massena

St. Lawrence Central turned back Potsdam while Massena Central fell short to Canton in NAC Central Division varsity girls basketball matchups on Thursday.

SLC 57, Potsdam 47: In Brasher Falls, the Lady Larries reversed a 25-22 halftime deficit, sealing the win with a 23-15 fourth-quarter run. Lindsey Thayer tossed through a game-high 21 points followed by Bailee Gauthier with 15 as the Lady Larries evened their overall record to 6-6 while improved to 4-5 in the division. Breanna Evans contributed nine points toward the winning effort and Morgan Greer netted another eight while Jenna Kesner scored two and Chelsea Savage one.

For Potsdam (1-12, 0-10), Bre Sapp tallied a team-high 13 points followed by Sarah Vivlamore with 12 and Courtney DiTullio with eight. Katherine Blanchard and Kayla Phillips added five points apiece while Alexis Peterson and Madisyn Beamer chipped in two each.

Both teams are slated to return to action on Saturday with SLC hosting Central Division rival starting with the JV game at 1 p.m. and Potsdam welcoming Hammond in an interdivisional contest slated to begin at 11:30 a.m.

Canton 54, Massena 39: At the Massena High School gym, the Lady Golden Bears outscored the Lady Raiders 16-3 in the second quarter and relayed a 26-11 halftime lead into the win. Tori Daley anchored a balanced Canton (11-3, 9-2) offense with 16 points while grabbing five rebounds and handing out three assists. Kali Frank generated 15 points, five steals and six rebounds. Natalie DiSalvo came off the bench to produce seven points and three assists.

Senior forward Samanntha Villnave worked the paint for a game-high 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Raiders (4-8, 3-5). Bailee Young drilled a pair of three-pointers in an eight-point contribution. Jessica Rode came off the bench to generate five points and 11 rebounds. Devin Kelly (6 rebounds, 5 steals), Jaylee Jones and Sophia Rusaw chipped in two points each while Maeve Curran closed out the Massena scoresheet with a free throw.

OFA PREVAILS

In the other NAC Central girls basketball game played on Thursday, OFA raced out to a 22-4 lead in the first quarter and never looked back in posting a 64-41 win on the road over Gouverneur.

Riley Luckie fired through 19 points followed by Meg Dodge with 17 in the winning effort.

Rebecca Bulsiewicz paced the Lady Wildcats with 11 points and Danielle Bullock tallied another eight.
