Massena wrestlers prevail over OFA via pin total

OGDENSBURG - OFA’s Adam Rickett knew he had to have a pin and his climatic 138-pound bout ended with Massena’s Gavin Perrine holding off determinined attempt for a pinning combination.

Rickett secured a 7-3 win but Perrine’s ability to avoid a pin or a major decision produced a 36-36 tie. A tie which was broken in the first criteria where Massena prevailed by virtue of a 5-4 edge in pins.

The Blue Devils won the first three bouts as Nathan Murdock (146) nipped Austin Amo 14-13, Bailey Phelps (152) pinned Quinton Coulter 3:20 and Cody Allen-David (160) shaded Dan Elman 6-4.

The Raiders quickly regrouped gaining three pins and a forfeit in the next five bouts. Hunter Perrine (170) posted a 1:39 fall over Allen Smithers and OFA’s Alex Cole (182) answered with an 8-5 decision over Cameron Tarbell. The Raiders then rolled into a 24-14 lead as Jeremey Malone (195) stopped Jordan McCormick at 3:30, Dakota Bernard (220) posted a 1:05 fall over Gurjot Grewal at 220 and Nolan Terrance (285) gained a forfeit.

The Devils gained a 27-24 margin with a forfeit to Cordell David at 99 and a 2:28 pin by Zach Roberts over Brian Plourde at 106. Nathan Marshall (113) created 27-27 tie with a 2-0 victory over Tannier LaPiene.

The two teams then volleyed two pins and two decisions to create the 36-36 tie. OFA’s Brody Sheppard (120) pinned Skyler Cameron at 3:10 and the Raiders’ Alec Denny (126) answered with a 34-second fall over Austin Lalonde.

The Raiders Mike Brown (132) decisioned Josh Wangler 7-3 before Rickett closed the meet with his win over Gavin Perrine.

Massena climbed to 4-1 on the season and dropped OFA to 2-3.
