Section 10 well-represented on NYSPHAA Scholar-Athlete Teams

LATHAM - Section 10 was well-represented on the New York State Public High School Scholar-Athlete teams for the 2013 fall sports season.

OFA and Gouverneur Central led the strong showing with six varsity progams boasting a team grade point average of 90 or above. A total of nine schools saw teams honored for their academic efforts.

The six teams from OFA were; Boys Cross Country (94.24), Girls Volleyball (94.08), Boys Soccer (93.44), Girls Swimming (92.45), Football (91.98) and Girls Soccer (91.55).

The Gouverneur teams included; Girls Soccer (95.17), Girls Volleyball (94.76), Football (93.82), Boys Cross Country (93.64), Girls Swimming (92.10) and Boys Soccer (90.52).

Canton Central and Franklin Academy each produced five Scholar Athlete Teams. Honored for Canton were; Girls Cross Country (94.74), Girls Swimming (94.12), Girls Soccer (93.88), Girls Volleyball (92.93) and Boys Soccer (92.75). The FA teams were; Girls Cross Country (96.48), Girls Swimming (93.62), Girls Soccer (93.19), Boys Cross Country (92.59) and Girls Volleyball (92.36).

The four Massena Central teams honored for their scholastic efforts were; Girls Swimming (95.64), Girls Soccer (94.81), Girls Volleyball (94.23) and Football (93.59).

Potsdam Central and Edwards-Knox each saw three teams cited. For Potsdam - Boys Cross Country (95.03), Girls Soccer (92.12) and Girls Volleyball (91.96). For E-K - Girls Soccer (91.35), Boys Soccer (90.62) and Girls Volleyball (90.13).

Rounding out the Section 10 schools were; Heuvelton Central - Girls Soccer (94.75) and Boys Soccer (93.42) and Madrid-Waddington - Girls Volleyball (91.63).

The OFA boys cross country team also included qualifying runners from Heuvelton and Morristown Central. The Canton girls country team included competitors from M-W and Lisbon Central while the Franklin Academy Boys and Girls Cross Country teams each had runners from Chateaugay Central.

Any team earning a 90.0 grade point average was honored as a NYSPHAA Scholar-Athlete Team by the sports with members of each team receiving a pin and certificate.
