Massena: Barbara A. Cunningham, 80 of Garvin Ave., beloved wife of Arthur died Saturday morning (January 25,2014) surrounded by her loving family at the Highland Nursing Home where she had been a resident since October 2013. Family and friends are invited to call Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena. A Mass of Resurrection will be held Thursday (January 30, 2014) at 12:00pm at the Church of the Sacred with Rev. Donald J. Manfred presiding. Interment will take place in the family plot at Calvary Cemetery in the spring. Barbara was born in Massena on April 24, 1933 the daughter of Nathaniel and Mary Pearl (Tyo) Chase. Following her formal education she attended Ogdensburg Business School. She was a secretary for the Ogdensburg School system for several years. Barbara married Arthur Cunningham on August 13, 1960 at Notre Dame Church in Ogdensburg. NY. While a full time mother Barbara was involved in several voluntary activities including the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, L.B.C.A., and the Massena Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Barbra spent many years babysitting children for various families. She enjoyed bowling and was on a bowling league for a number of years, served as an Election Inspector. Barbara enjoyed her pets, watching her favorite baseball team the New York Yankees as well as spending time with her family, especially summer barbecues and holidays. Barbara leaves behind her loving husband Arthur, son Arthur R. of Chicago, IL, David P. and his wife Virginia of Sewanee, TN and her daughter Cathy Thomas of Massena, two granddaughters, Danielle Cunningham and Kiara Eddy .She is also survived by a half sister Beverly Burton of Syracuse, NY and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Barbara was predeceased by a son Michael J. in 2004, her sister Pauline Sullivan, brothers William and Charles Chase. Those wishing to honor Barbara’s memory may do so to the Massena Humane Society or the Massena Rescue Squad. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Philips Memorial Home, Massena.
