December unemployment rates in the north country are down sharply from December 2012 across all three counties.
The largest drop was in Lewis County, which fell from 11.1 to 8.9 percent. In St. Lawrence County, the rate dropped from 10.1 percent in 2012 to 8.1 percent in 2013. Jefferson Countys rate dropped from 10.8 to 9.1 percent.
St. Lawrence Countys rate also was down from the month before, from 8.3 to 8.1 percent, while Jefferson Countys rose from 9 to 9.1 percent for the month and Lewis Countys rose from 8.3 to 8.9 percent.
Jefferson Countys unemployment rate is among the highest in the state, tied for second with Hamilton County, and Lewis Countys rate is third highest.
