Madrid-Waddington School District looking to change elementaryschool report cards

MADRID — The Madrid-Waddington School District expects to change its report cards for elementary school students to include more detail about what students are expected to learn in alignment with New York’s Common Core curriculum.

“We put together a report card committee and we’ll be researching report cards that are already out there in New York state,” Elementary Principal Matthew Daley said. “Also, we’ll be adding some needs of our own.”

A representative from each grade level — kindergarten through fifth — special education, and special subjects, including physical education and art, will work together to compile the report cards by spring.

The report cards will also be available via the school’s website using the parent portal, Schooltool, for the first time. High school students’ report cards are already available online.

“It’s a major undertaking, but we need it, we have to do it and should do it,” Mr. Daly said.
