HAMMOND After starting a Facebook campaign Scott needs a Kidney and almost a year of searching, Scott W. Kron has received a life-saving kidney transplant.
Mr. Kron, who suffered from IgA nephropathy, a hereditary kidney disease, was depending on regular dialysis treatments to live. Thanks to the Facebook campaign, Evangeline Vangie T. Yelton, 43, of Lewis County, step forward to help.
The transplant surgery, performed Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo, on Jan. 13, was a success, Mr. Kron said Friday.
It worked better than [the doctors] and we were expecting, he said.
Mr. Kron said he is on his way to making a full recovery.
He will go back to work in April. He also plans to continue to volunteer with the Hammond Fire Department.
They say there is no reason why I cant go on doing the things I did before it all happened, the father of six said. My family is excited to know there is a good outlook on my future.
Mrs. Yelton is also still recovering, but is doing well, Mr. Kron said. Mrs. Yelton could not be reached for comment Friday.
While recuperating, Mrs. Yelton and Mr. Kron have been working together to bring other donors and recipients together.
Mrs. Yelton and Mr. Kron have formed the Northern New York Connection: Bringing Together Living Kidney Donors/Recipients. Mrs. Yelton has set up a Facebook page for the group and hopes to have a website up and running in the next three months.
The Facebook page already has more than 60 members. It will serve patients in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties.
Well be looking for volunteers over the next couple of months, Mr. Kron said. If anyone is interested they can feel free to contact me or Vangie.
