Kathryn I. Lunderman Hooper

Calling hours for 92 year old Mrs. Kathryn Irene Lunderman Hooper will be held Friday, February 7th 2014 at Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam from noon to 4:00 PM. A spring graveside committal service in the Madrid cemetery will be held on a date and time to be announced. Mrs. Hooper died February 3, 2014 at the United Helpers Maplewood Campus in Canton. She was a former resident of Madrid, NY.

Survivors include a daughter Judith Simmons of Madrid, a son John Lunderman also of Madrid, a brother Kenneth Hollinger and his wife Barbara of Hannawa Falls, a sister Betty Barkley of Madrid, seven grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, three step children and several step grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, a son in law Rupert “Red” Sheldon, and several nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by a Mildred Cameron, a daughter Nancy Sheldon, a brother William Hollinger, an infant daughter Lois Lunderman, and two grandchildren.

Kathryn was born in Piercefield, New York on September 2, 1921 the daughter of Alvin and Della Giroux Hollinger. She attended school in Potsdam, NY. On July 23, 1938 she married Floyd Lunderman at St. Mary’s Rectory in Potsdam. Mr. Lunderman died July 15, 1976. On March 18, 1978 Kathryn married Ernest Hooper. Mr. Hooper died January 27, 1982.

Kathryn’s early working career included clerking at Endicott Johnson Shoes in Potsdam, and owning Kay’s Diner in Madrid. She later joined the food service staff at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY where she worked many years. Upon her retirement from St. Lawrence Kathryn became the cook for Delta Sigma Fi fraternity in Potsdam retiring in 1981.

She was an avid gardener, snowmobiler, and enjoyed camping with family. A long time member of Parish Chapter 91 Order of the Eastern Star in Parishville, Kathryn was also a former Madrid Fireman’s Auxiliary member, and an American Legion Auxiliary member in Potsdam.
