The Massena Central and St. Lawrence Central varsity girls basketball teams closed out the regular season by dropping hard-fought NAC Central Division decisions on their homecourts Thursday night.
OFA 62, Massena 43: At the Massena High School gym, the Lady Raiders scored the first nine points of the game and survived a second-quarter comeback to take a 26-25 lead into halftime before the Lady Blue Devils (12-6, 10-4) put together a decisive 24-10 run in the third quarter.
Riley Luckie sparked the winning effort with a 23-point outing that included four three-pointers. Taylor Perry and Courtney Sherwin added nine points apiece followed by Susie Morrow with seven. Brooke Badlam and Meg Dodge both finished with five while Paige Perry closed out the Lady Blue Devil scoresheet with a free throw.
Bailee Young anchored the Massena offense with nine points. Jessica Rode added nine followed by Samanntha Villnave and Jaylee Jones with seven each, Maeve Curran with three and Robin Boudreau with two.
The Lady Raiders (4-12, 4-10) will now gear up to take on Franklin Academy in the Section 10 Class A championship game slated for Monday, February 17, at SUNY Potsdams Jerry Welsh Gymnasium.
Massena JVs 45, OFA JVs 41: Sydnee Carroll led all scorers with 14 points in the winning effort. Maddie Thibault added nine points followed by Abby LaClair with eight.
Jill Lincoln fired through a game-high 21 points in the losing effort. Kiera Johnson and Kelsey Pinkerton each finished with eight.
Franklin Academy 48, SLC 31: In Brasher Falls, the visiting Lady Huskies worked their way to a 29-15 halftime lead before going on to hold off the Lady Larries (11-7, 8-6).
Chelsea Savage led SLC in scoring with 14 points. Lindsey Thayer generated 11 points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots. Bailee Gauthier (7 rebounds, 5 assists), Jenna Kesner (6 assists, 4 rebounds, 1 steal) and Breanna Evans each finished with two.
For the Lady Huskies (16-1, 13-0), Meghan OConnor tossed through 13 points followed by Morgan Fountain with 12, Rachel Lamica with nine and Emily Marshall with eight. Taylor Poirier, Erin McDonald and Janelle Heden closed out the scoring for FA with two points each.
Potsdam 44, Gouverneur 42 (OT): In the other Central Division game played Thursday night, the Lady Sandstoners outlasted the Lady Wildcats to earn their only Central Division win.
