BENCH WARRANT - MASSENA - Village police picked up Raeanne L. Benedict, 34, of 305 Cook Road, Hogansburg, on a bench warrant at 3:10 p.m. Monday after she was released after serving a six-month sentence in the Franklin County Jail. The warrant, signed July 30, alleged Benedict had failed to appear as a petit larceny count pending in Massena Village Court.

Village police had charged Benedict, 32, of 305 Cook Road, Hogansburg, with petit larceny at 10:43 a.m. June 21, 2012 following an alleged shoplifting inciden at the Massena Walmartt. Police said Benedict walked out of the store without paying for $262.47 worth of merchandise, primarily clothing, party supplies and children’s toys.

She was arraigned on the warrant by Massena Town Justice Gerald P. Sharlow and released to reappear Tuesday in Massena Village Court.

Mr. Sharlow warned Benedict there would be consequences if she failed to appear in court Tuesday and noted prosecutors had an offer in her file that would allow her to plead guilty to a reduced count of a disorderly conduct violation.

Benedict is currently serving a five-year felony probation term.
