POTSDAM - A pair of SUNY Potsdam hockey players were honored by their respective leagues for their efforts on the ice last week.
PASCALLI NAMED HOCKEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mens hockey player Billy Pascalli (Deer Park, N.Y.) has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conferences Player of the Week for his play during the week ending February 9.
Pascalli had a five-point weekend as the Bears kept their playoff hopes alive. The sophomore scored the game-tying goals in both contests this weekend. He got Potsdam even with Buffalo State in the second period of Fridays 1-1 draw with a power play-goal. In Saturdays 4-4 tie with Fredonia, Pascalli scored an extra-attacker goal on the man advantage with 57 seconds left and added assists on each of Potsdams other three goals.
This season, Pascalli has overcome injury and is second on the team in scoring with seven goals and eight assists for 15 points. He leads the Bears with six power play-goals and is tied for 11th in the nation in the same category. Eight of his points, four goals and four assists, have come in his last three contests.
The Bears (7-12-2, 2-8-2 SUNYAC) are currently just two points out of the sixth and final playoff spot. This weekend, Potsdam hosts Morrisville for two critical SUNYAC contests on Friday and Saturday. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m.
OTT RECLAIMS ROOKIE HONOR
Womens hockey player Jordan Ott (Hilton, N.Y.) has continued to excel during her freshman season.
This week she earned her sixth Eastern College Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week award in 13 weeks.
Ott had two goals and three assists for five points in a weekend sweep of Buffalo State, helping the Bears clinch a playoff berth for the third straight season. She had an assist in Fridays 3-2 road victory over the Bengals. She then scored a team-leading eighth power-play goal and the game-winner along with two more assists as the Bears downed the Bengals
4-3 on Saturday. The two goals gave Ott 17 tallies on the season to tie Potsdams single-season mark.
This season, Ott leads the team in scoring with 17 goals and 10 assists for 27 points in 18 games. She needs just five more to match the programs single-season record of 32 points. The forward is tied for 11th in the nation overall and is second among NCAA rookies with 1.35 points-per-game.
She is tied for second in the nation with eight power-play goals and is third in goals-per-game at 0.85.
Potsdam will play a non-conference home-and-home series with SUNY Canton this weekend. The Bears host the Roos at 3 p.m. on Saturday and then square off at the Roos House at the same time Sunday.
The Bears are currently tied for third in the ECAC West and can finish anywhere from third to fifth with only two conference games remaining against No. 8 Utica College on Feb. 21-22.
