FORT COVINGTON - The Salmon River Central School District is hoping to collect information for an alumni, retiree and previous board member database to help inspire students working toward college and career aspirations.

The goal is to reach out to as many people who have been touched by the school district as possible and figure out where they are today and how they got there.

Officials hope that they can also collect photos to go with people’s names, ages, years involved with the school and, if a retiree, the position they held there.

Salmon River will utilize forms and an online survey on their website to collect the information. Once enough data is gathered, it will be made available on a new web page for the school, currently in the design phase with Capital Region BOCES and expected to launch in July.

Superintendent Jane Collins said there are many hopes for database usage. With it, the school could promote alumni accomplishments, honor teachers and board members; connect community members past and present and offer students the contact information needed to reach out to adults who went to colleges they want to attend or work in career fields they wish to join.

The school will soon begin advertising the project on their current website and Facebook page. The goal is to use current employees and the no-cost World Wide Web to pull the project together without spending much or any money.
