MASSENA - As marketing efforts for the site of Massenas former GM plant continue, one of the people leading the charge recently attended an automobile show in Toronto, with another event scheduled for this weekend in Denver.
RACER (Revitalizing Auto Communities Environmental Response) Trust Deputy Project Manager Patricia A. Spitzley said those efforts recently included an event similar to speed dating that was held at the Toronto Automotive show.
We met about eight companies that are interested in expanding to the United States, she said, explaining the show included an afternoon that consisted of a series of 20-minute meetings.
After 20 minutes a bell went off and you moved on to the next meeting, Ms. Spitzley said, adding Massenas site was primarily their focus at Torontos event.
The primary site we talked about due to its proximity was Massena, she said, adding RACER also promoted some of their properties in Michigan, which like Massena is located within close proximity to the Canadian border.
Up next, Ms. Spitzley said, RACER officials will be attending a developers conference in Denver this weekend.
The marketing of the site may also receive a boost in the near future, should CSX decide to name it a CSX Select Site.
That designation, she said, would provide a tremendous boost to RACERs efforts.
If this site gets chosen it will be the only CSX Select Site in the northeast, Ms. Spitzley said, adding the designation is not one CSX takes lightly.
Its a very comprehensive review process, she said. Its a tool for them to help their customers. Its almost like a seal of approval.
