St. Lawrence Thunder Bantams host North Sectional Tournament

MASSENA - The Massena Minor Hockey Association and the St. Lawrence Thunder Bantams will be hosting the Youth Tier II 14-Under North Sectional Tournament this weekend at the Massena Arena.

Coached by Bobby Smith along with assistants Jeff Allen and Ed Underwood, the Thunder Bantams are made up of players from several area communities. They enter the post-season as two-time defending New York State Amateur Hockey Association champions and have captured a silver medal at the USA Hockey National Tournament.

This weekend’s sectionals at the Massena Arena get underway this evening at 5 p.m. with the Thunder taking on Adirondack. They will face-off against Bethlehem on Saturday at 10:50 a.m. before playings a pair of games on Sunday against Saratoga at 9 a.m. and Plattsburgh at 4:30 p.m. The top two teams from the sectional tournament advance to the state tournament the weekend of March 7-9.

This year’s Thunder Bantams lineup includes; Grant VanBuren, Cole Allen, Nathan Bressard, Joshua Sanchez, Joshua Underwood, Merrick Taraska, Billy Bergan, Kyran Sunday, Cole Moore, Jared Barr, Kyler Head, Corson Green, Isaac Thrasher, Broadie Woods, Mark Mahoney and Jacob Mattice.

The other game slated for this evening pits Bethlehem against Saratoga starting at 6:50 p.m. The other Saturday matchups are; Adirondack vs. Plattsburgh at 9 a.m., Plattsburgh vs. Saratoga at 2:40 p.m. and Adirondack vs. Bethlehem at 4:30 p.m. The other two games slated are Plattsburgh vs. Bethlehem at 10:50 a.m. and Saratoga vs. Adirondack at 2:40 p.m.
