Love letters from jail turn sour for Massena man

MASSENA - St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies reported Monday they had charged Chad M. McGregor, 34, of 266 East Orvis St., Massena, currently an inmate at the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility, with aggravated harassment on Feb. 18.

Deputies allege McGregor sent two letters in December to a female in Massena that contained threats that alarmed the woman. Deputies only learned about those letters earlier this month, according to court documents.

McGregor talked about his dreams for starting a family with Jasmine L. Wood in one of those letters and shared his hopes for making her dreams come true in another by using an anticipated six figure settlement to buy her a home or farm, a horse, a four-wheeler and a vehicle.

But he also warned the woman it wouldn’t be pretty if he found out she was cheating on him while he was incarcerated. The couple started dating on Oct. 31, and McGregor has been incarcerated since Nov. 20. He is scheduled to complete his sentence on March 4.

With a heavy use of expletives as adjectives, McGregor wrote, “I will ... go on ... a ... murder spree. I have four guns in my cellar and will unload every ... one of them. I have enough ammo to hold off Massena Police for a week,” he added.

“So if you did cheat your best bet is to leave now out of my house and move far away and hide for a long time. But if you are good I will buy you everything,” he said in a December letter he wrote to his girlfriend while she was living with his mother.

He made similar threats in a second letter sent approximately a week later when he warned the woman she and the person she went out with would both suffer consequences if she cheated on him while he was incarcerated.“I will kill you and him and that’s no lie. I’m not one to (mess) with,” McGregor wrote.

McGregor was arraigned by Massena Village Justice Eric J. Gustafson on the aggravated harassment charge and sent back to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility. The court also signed a temporary order of protection directing McGregor to stay away from Ms. Wood.
