WADDINGTON The community will once again host an international bass fishing event, and organizers are busy trying to find new ways to draw in spectators.
The B.A.S.S. Nation Eastern Divisional and Championship will be held Sept. 22 to 26. The event will bring 250 anglers – 150 more than the Elite tournament held in 2013 to Waddington and surrounding communities.
As an added attraction for anglers and St. Lawrence County families, the bass event will be coupled with a craft and artisan show and mini carnival in Whittaker Park directly following the event, Sept. 26 and 27.
The event will feature bounce houses, carnival rides, a concert, a 5-kilometer race sponsored by J.C.s River Run, fireworks and a canoe race, live music, and fireworks. The event will be free for soldiers.
We have some people that will come for the fishing, but we also want to entertain whole families – including the anglers, Mr. Giordano said.
The host fee for the event is $7,500 over $52,000 less than the Bass Elite.
If anyone is looking to help sponsors visiting angler dinner, advertising, and music events and fireworks, we would appreciate the help, event committee member Robert J. Giordano said Thursday. We also need volunteers as many as we can get.
Vendors can register by purchasing a 12 by 12 booth space for $50 until July 31.
We already have 10 vendors signed up, event committee member Colleen Ketner said.
