Update: Ogdensburg man arrested for alleged grand larceny

An Ogdensburg man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly claiming more than $15,000 for hours he did not work while he was an employee Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center.

Andrew W. Rheome, 30, of 20 Whisper Wind Circle, falsified business documents so that he could collect $15,600 for time that he did not work as a per-diem Mental Health sitter, the Ogdensburg Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit said in a news release.

City police charged him with first-degree falsifying of business records, a class E felony, and third-degree grand larceny, a class D felony.

Police received a tip from Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center staff Jan. 23.

Laura Shea, spokeswoman for Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, said Mr. Rheome had been employed at the hospital since 2011 as a per-diem employee, working on an as-needed basis.

He was terminated Jan. 1 from the hospital.

Mrs. Shea said she could not comment further because the investigation is ongoing.

Mr. Rheome was arraigned in Ogdensburg City Court on Tuesday and released on his own recognizance.
