Writer looking for the real Joe Stark

To The Editor:

I wonder just how many Joe Starks there are?

There is one Joe Stark that I periodically meet at the Watering Hole (his words) and who frequently surprises me with his apparent breadth, and diversity of knowledge of north country events past and current... and with an equally diverse audience of associates and acquaintances.

That Joe’s knowledge seems to be almost encyclopedic when compared to my own sparse north country data base. (I attribute that personal paucity to decades of absence from the local scene while pursuing a military career.)

Then there’s this other Joe that seems to devolve into a political partisan parroting of glib half-truths and party pap. I cite as an example his most recent Letter to the Editor newly published in the Courier Observer.

In that piece Joe extols the heretofore unproven virtues of Secretary’s Kerry and Hagel and as if that weren’t enough, even going so far as to infer a “filth-free” Hillary. Then too we have the world witnessing Secretary Hagel swearing to critically downsize U.S. Armed Forces while Sec. Kerry simultaneously threatens an apparently revitalized and hegemonous Russia... Hah!

In that same letter Joe beats me about the head and shoulders with a gentleman (presumably) named Aaron Woolf, a candidate for the 21st District. Mr. Woolf has reportedly received numerous awards for his documentaries, and for public speaking.

As of yet I have been unable to determine what Mr. Woolfs’ positions are with regards to the economy, immigration, national debt, or any other matter of substance and merit; however, with his cinematic background and success I’m sure to be entertained by him when (and if) he gets around to it.

Thus far that worthy gentleman has been unavailable for comment or interview.

I should also mention that Mr. Woolf has economic interests in Brooklyn, New York... yet another “downstater” - a group well known for advancing north country interests.

Perhaps, in lieu of a robust Armed Force, Mr. Woolf could defend our nation with a brisk and strapping bit of public speaking?

If there are any other Joe’s out there I wish they’d make themselves known - so far the two I’m acquainted with are sufficiently confusing and I’d like to try to brace myself for any others.
