FIRE SAFETY - An initiative to offer free smoke detectors is currently underway at Canton Central School. A survey has been sent home with students to see if there is a working smoke alarm in their household.
Coordinating the program are Eric Johnson, pictured above on the left, of the Canton Fire Department, and William Coakley, pictured on the right, of Coakley Carpet One Ace Hardware who are supplying the smoke alarms in conjunction with the First Alert company. In the center is Kelley Glasgow, school counselor who handled the survey work. To date, 10 smoke detectors have been distributed to families of students in grades pre-kindergarten through 6th grade. The smoke alarm program will continue through the end of the school year and will resume in the fall. (Paul Mitchell Photo)
