POTSDAM - The Potsdam Town Court will soon be adding a touch of old school decoration, as a bid from Dow Electric to install and hang a replica clock was accepted by town officials earlier this week.
They put this out to bid but only one bid was received from Dow Electric, and, to be honest, this was the one we wanted because they did all of the electric work, Town Supervisor Marie C. Regan said. So Dow said theyd do it for $2,125. Last time I asked if I could pursue this. I told you it would be less than $3,000 so now we know what it is and Id like a motion so we can start.
The town received a grant of up to $600,000 from the State Historical Preservation Office (SHPO) nearly two years ago and are nearing the end of their spending for the project.
A clock hung from the front of the 35 Market St. building years ago when the building was also home to the town hall.
We have pictures going back to the late 40s and early 50s and so we decided that (the clock) was the last thing we had enough money for left in the grant, Ms. Regan said. We wanted to make everything as close to what it used to be when the town hall started.
The town supervsior added that Mother Nature will likely decide when the new addition is unveiled.
They were thinking they could do it in mid-March but it will depend on weather conditions, Ms. Regan said. The clock has been delivered and whenever Dow thinks they can do it, it will be done – probably sometime this spring.
