On Wednesday, March 12, 2014, William Lloyd Blake, age 67, died peacefully after a long illness at United Helpers Maplewood Nursing Home in Canton, NY where he had been a resident since 1979.

There will be no public calling hours. On Thursday March 20, 2014 at 1:30pm there will be a Memorial Mass held in the Chapel of the United Helpers Maplewood Campus, 205 State St., Canton, NY with Rev. Douglas J. Lucia officiating. The Memorial Mass is open to the public. Later in the spring, there will be a Catholic graveside service at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Taberg, New York. There, Bill will be laid to rest with his parents. Arrangements are entrusted to the Fox & Murray Funeral Home in Ogdensburg.

Mr. Blake is the son of the late William H. & Gladys (Roberts) Blake of Ogdensburg. Both parents were educators at Ogdensburg Free Academy. Additionally, Bill was the older twin brother of T. James Blake now of Milwaukee, WI.

Unfortunately, at birth Bill was afflicted by cerebral palsy. He resided at his parents’ home in Ogdensburg until the mid-1970s when he moved to the United Helpers Nursing Home in Canton, NY. Bill is survived by his twin brother (Jim), his sister-in-law (Maryalice) as well as one niece, one great-nephew, one great-niece, and numerous cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the United Helpers Maplewood, 205 State St., Canton, NY 13617 to support resident activities; or donations can be made to Hospice of St. Lawrence County, 6805 US Highway 11, Potsdam, NY 13676. The Blake family extends its heartfelt thanks for the wonderful care that Mr. Blake received over the years from the many nurses aides, nurses, doctors, social workers, physical therapists, and other personnel at the United Helpers Maplewood Nursing Home and most recently from Hospice of St. Lawrence County.
