SUNY system delays SUNY Canton presidential choice

CANTON — SUNY Canton expected to have a new president this week, but now it appears the college will have to wait until May to learn who its new leader will be.

The college wrapped up its search in February, recommending its favorite three candidates from a list of five to SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher. The SUNY board of trustees is meeting this week, but will not choose SUNY Canton’s president as originally expected.

“It’s my understanding that there was an unavoidable delay of some sort,” SUNY Canton College Council Chairman Ronald M. O’Neill said.

He said he does not know the reason for the delay, only that it stemmed from SUNY itself, not the college.

SUNY officials could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

The SUNY board of trustees is not scheduled to meet again until May.
