EDWARDS — St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies on Thursday charged Nathan G. Rapin, 37, of 135 County Route 28, Ogdensburg, with a series of traffic violations, including speeding, following a car crash that sent him and two passengers to the hospital.

Deputies said Mr. Rapin was driving north on River Road at 11:54 p.m. when he lost control of his vehicle, drove through a stop sign, entered an intersection, exited the roadway and struck a large tree stump.

Mr. Rapin and his passengers, Sarah L. Ashley, 35, and Nicholas P. Caron, 34, both of 1223 Mechanic St., Ogdensburg, were taken to Gouverneur Hospital by the Gouverneur Volunteer Rescue Squad. They were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Hospital officials would not confirm whether the three had been released.

Mr. Rapin cited with speed not reasonable and prudent and failure to stop for a stop sign.

Deputies were assisted by state police, Edwards Volunteer Fire Department and Edwards Volunteer Rescue Squad.
