To The Editor:
This letter is in response to the latest letter from the Sage of Massena, aka P.J. Murphy. He states that the America he knew was like a Norman Rockwell painting. He should have added if you were white and of the male gender.
The America he knew didnt exist for black or Hispanic Americans. Is The Sage ignorant of what Rosa Parks went through, just to keep her bus seat? Surely he must remember little black children being blown up in Sunday School. How About when blacks peacefully tried to cross The Pettis Bridge in Alabama and were attacked by huge dogs, fire hoses, police billy clubs, and a rabid white mob eagerly jumping in to help old Bull Connors to keep the ... in line? They endured this to prove that they were as free as the next guy. Excuse me but having viewed a few of old Norms paintings, I never saw one like this.
Then he mentions the willfully unemployed. Is The Sage2 saying the people that lost their good paying jobs when GM closed became unemployed willingly? What about the ones being affected by whats going on at Alcoa East?
Does he think the ones that will lose their jobs are looking forward to being willfully unemployed? Does he know unemployment is only 39 weeks? Does that sound like the path to paradise to him? The unchristian and callous way he attacks those that have fallen on hard times is disturbing to those of us with souls and compassion. Something he seriously seems to lack.
This ends the letter. There were just too many ignorant and cruel remarks to respond to in one short letter. Heres hoping that his views are held by only a small minority of Americans.
PS: PJ, you criticize Obama for his handling of the Crimea crisis. Your voice was mute when Putin invaded Georgia. What different plan of attack should Obama take that Bushy 2 didnt in regards to Georgia. Remember Mr. Army Intelligence, this is Russias backyard and they have A and H bombs. Our hands are basically tied the same way they were with Bush2 and Georgia. To attack Obama is sheer pettiness on your part.
