Thunder midgets improve to 2-0 in chase for Tier II 16U national title (Updated)

RESTON, Va. - There was no early morning shortage of energy for the St. Lawrence Thunder midgets asr they skated to a 6-1 victory over Team Toledo in a Thursday morning contest that had an 8 a.m. faceoff.

Lukas Arquiett (SLC), Kaden Pickering (N-N) and Wyatt Wilmshirt paced the Thuunder offense with two goal outings. Arquiett and Wilmshurst each notched power play markers and Pickering’s two goal and one assist morning put him on top of the leaderboard in the 16U points race (4g 2a - 6 pts.) early on day two of the national tournament.

Chad Varney, Jordan Robert and Kody Kocsis each had two assists for the winners and solo helpers were credited to Hayden Hart, Logan Ford, Benjamin Sprague and Pat Manning.

The Massena Minor Hockey sanctioned team broke open a 1-1 tie midway through the second period when Arquiett, Wilmshurst and Pickering scored during a 4 minute stretch with the first two goals coming in just over a 90-second span.

Logan Brothers stopped 15 shots on a morning when the Thunder outshot their opponents 40-16.

The Thunder return to action tomorrow when they meet the Chicago Hawks. The Hawks edged Team Toledo 2-1 Wednesday.
