ABC drama ‘Resurrection’ references Parishville Sunday night

PARISHVILLE - The mystery of Parishville’s reference on an ABC show Sunday night, and it all came down to location.

“Parishville, New York” was heard by over 8 million television viewers Sunday night, as the small town was referenced by a character on the new show, “Resurrection.”

The show, which airs at 9 p.m. Sundays, centers around residents of Arcadia, Mo., who are “forever changed when their deceased loved ones suddenly start to reappear,” according to

In Sunday night’s episode, “Us Against the World,” Rachael makes the claim that she woke up in the middle of cornfield three days earlier and a family informed her that she was in Parishville.

“I did think it was interesting. They didn’t say what cornfield it was so now we’re all wondering where she was talking about. It was interesting. My sister told me that the town was mentioned in (the show),” Parishville Town Councilwoman Kari E. Tremper said.

“I think it’s kind of neat that the small town was mentioned in a national televised series. I know the report has sparked a lot of interest and people are wondering why we were mentioned on the show,” Parishville-Hopkinton Central School Superintendent Darin P. Saiff said.

One of the show’s executive producers, Michele Fazekas, is a St. Lawrence University graduate, but she said the Parishville reference was unrelated to her time in St. Lawrence County.

The town of just over 2,000 people was mentioned “because of the precise latitude and longitude of the town. The fact that it’s in the vicinity of SLU is pure coincidence,” Ms. Fazekas said in a statement.

Town Councilwoman Shirley Robinson admits to being an infrequent viewer of ABC but was still impressed with Parishville’s mention.

“That’s quite an honor whatever kind of a show it is. It’s cool how someone has noticed us up here in northern New York whether the show is fictional or not,” Ms. Robinson said. “We’re such a small town that this is a big surprise. Maybe I’ll have to start watching the show now.”
