MASSENA - A popular ice cream stand located on the banks of the Grasse River has changed hands.

The ice cream parlor that overlooks the Grasse River will soon be changing its name from Riverside Ice Cream and More to Rapidz Ice Cream, Burgers and Dogs.

The village’s Planning Board granted the new owners permission to make alterations to the sign at the business.

Planning board Chairman Frank Hutt read a letter to the village officials written by Corey and Jennifer Deshaies.

“The county didn’t have any problems with it and they returned it for local action,” Mr. Hutt said. “‘We, Corey and Jennifer Deshaies, have purchased 25 Center St., formerly operated as Riverside Ice Cream and More. We would like to continue operating the business under a different name. ... We will be hiring between six and 10 employees with business hours of Sunday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Our current plan is for the restaurant to operate for 11 months.”

“At this point we are asking the board for permission to change the existing Riverside signs to our new signage. We appreciate your time and consideration with this matter,” he said.

Ms. Deshaies said the business will likely close for the month of January or February.
