To The Editor:
When I read our state legislators want to replace General Motors with Agriculture or Agri-Businesses I shake my head.It wont work unless we the people here wish to accept what we had before the St. Lawrence Seaway brought oodles of electrical power to our area.
When GM was up and running there was enough power for three large industries, Alcoa, GM and Reynolds. We love you Alcoa but your just not enough to take the place of good old General Motors. This area prospered with the beaucoup power from the Robert Moses generating facilities including jobs for the New York Power Authority.
So pray tell us why we cant entice another major industry to build a manufacturing plant here and share the abundance of power we garnered with the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway.Just because we lost GM does it mean we go back to milking cows, growing truck gardens (which our climate does not support) and struggle tokeep up too many hospitals. Our schools are looking under every rock for solutions to keep up a standard in education we once enjoyed.
We need more factories and we must give all effort to bring them here.We supposedly have the power for at least three major industries so lets make an effort to bring them here.
We have power, water and skilled labor so get busy Industrial Development Agencies we are not going to let you to allow us to go back to pre-seaway days.Never mind King Cuomo and his (make me popular for my presidential aspirations) logistics. To hell with him lets look out for the big county, lets not give up our ability to prosper again.
