Elizabeth D. Burt


Massena- Elizabeth D. Burt, 90 of Grassmere Terrace passed away peacefully on Tuesday (April 15, 2014) at the Massena Memorial Hospital where she recently was admitted. Friends and Family are invited to call on Tues, April 22 from 3-6pm at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena. Immediately following calling hours will be a funeral service 6:00 pm at the Phillips Memorial Home with Rev. Donald J. Manfred presiding.

Elizabeth was born December 7, 1923 in Baltimore, Maryland, the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (Goldbeck) Bartholomey. She attended local Catholic Schools in Baltimore. Elizabeth married William M. Burt of Newberry, Michigan on March 2, 1946 at Sacred Heart Church in Baltimore, Md. They lived in Baltimore, raising their family and enjoying extended family ties. In 1966, the family moved to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. In Michigan, Liz enjoyed time with family, friends and relatives at their cottage on Manistique Lake, camping, snowmobiling and ice fishing. After the passing of her husband Bill, Elizabeth moved to Massena in 1998 to be with her sons and their families.

Liz enjoyed travelling, fishing, gardening, blueberry picking and reading. She had a strong faith in Christ and His Blessed Mother Mary. She loved her family deeply, and she was a good friend to many.

Elizabeth is survived by her children, Willaim T. and JoAnn Burt of Valrico, FL, Marshall R. and Ellen Burt of Massena; four grandchildren, Jeremy Burt, Bethany Niec, Brian and Jeff Fontaine; and 8 great-grand children.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years in 1996; a daughter, Barbara Fontaine; two brother, George and Tom and four sisters, Eva Aylor, Margaret Meredith, Mary Corson and Anna Bartholomey.

Memorial contributions may be made in Elizabeth’s memory to the Sacred Heart Church Sanctuary Fund, P.O. Box 329, Massena, NY. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena. Online condolences may be shared with the family at
