Pair of Clarkson Freshman Honored

POTSDAM - A pair of Clarkson University freshman earned Liberty League honors for their efforts last week.

After helping the Clarkson softball team fashion a three game winning streak, freshman Jamie Bridge (Plymouth, CT) has earned Liberty League Rookie of the Week honors for her performance both on the mound and at the plate last week.

Bridge earned her first win of the season against Potsdam State on Thursday, pitching seven innings and striking out 11 Bears while going 4-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored. She would earn the save in game one against rival St. Lawrence on Saturday, getting the final five outs and allowing just one hit. She would then pick up the victory in game two, pitching the final four innings and shutting out the Saints while striking out six batters. At the plate she went 10-for-22 in six games, scoring six times and knocking in four runs.

In a busy week for the Clarkson women’s lacrosse team, freshman Paige Fayette (Theresa, NY) earned Liberty League Rookie of the Week honors for her performance in three league games.

Fayette recorded a goal and an assist in each of the first two games last week, losses to St. Lawrence and Vassar, before tallying six goals and an assist in Clarkson’s 18-6 win over Bard. Three of those goals game on free-position shots and she added a draw control as well. She ended the week with three groundballs and two draw controls.

Fayette leads the Golden Knights with 53 points, including a team-high 39 goals. She is second on the team with 14 assists. This marks the third time that Fayette has earned rookie of the week honors this season.
