MED purchases new equipment for $200,000

MASSENA - The Massena Electric Department will be adding two new pieces of equipment to its inventory this spring.

The Massena Electric Utility Boar agreed to purchase a 10,000 lb. capacity pole trailer and a 55-foot insulating hydraulic aerial device from Altec Supply.

The municipal utility received two bids for each piece of equipment, but MED Superintendent Andrew J. McMahon felt comfortable going with Altec.

“We have a long track record with Altec and their service department has been very responsive to us for years. So my recommendation for the board is to accept the Altec bid at $199,264 for (the aerial device,)” he said. “The second was for a 10,000 lb. capacity pole trailer. We had this budgeted at $15,000. The low bid was Altec and the second low bid was from Irby and it was $2,000 more. We wanted to get galvanized, which would add $1,360 and still be below our budgeted price.”
