GRAND LARCENY - BRASHER FALLS - Massena -based state police charged Darrell J. Herne, 24, of Massena with fourth-degree grand larceny after responding to a report of a stolen all-terrain vehicle at 7:17 p.m. Thursday on County Route 50 in the town of Brasher.
Troopers said Herne contacted the owner of a 2007 Honda ATV in regards to a Craigslist ad which the owner had posted in order to sell it.
Herne went to the owners address and requested to test-drive the ATV. Herne then took off with the ATV with no intent of returning it. He drove it through a field and into a wooded area on the north side of County Route 50, where he ultimately crashed the four-wheeler.
By this time, the owner had contacted the state olice and troopers soon located and arrested Herne approximately one quarter mile in the woods.
Herne was arraigned by Stockholm Town Justice Wayne Williams and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at$5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.
