Norwood-area man jailed on drug charges following Massena traffic stop (Updated)

CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE - MASSENA - Village police charged Gerald L. Dissottle Jr., 23, of 532 Elliot Road, Norwood, with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, possession of a hypodermic needle and false personation at 9:43 p.m. Monday following a traffic stop on the Parker Avenue bridge. Police said Dissottle was in possession of a small amount of cocaine. Dissottle was arraigned by Massena Town Justice Gerald P. Sharlow and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond. Dissottle is also being held on a warrant for felony charges held by the Malone Village Police Department.

Police said Dissottle was a passenger in a vehicle and initially identified himself to police as Chase R. McCarthy, 20, but later acknowledged his actualy identity during further questioning by police. He reportedly told police he used the false name so he wouldn’t be picked up on outstanding warrants.

“You wouldn’t want to go to jail, right?” he reportedly told village police Sgt. Andrew Richards, noting there were warrants pending for his arrest on four felony charges.

Police said Dissottle was found in possession of a small plastic bag containing 0.04 grams of cocaine and told police he had hidden a needle in the back seat of the vehicle. The needle was recovered by police.
