MASSENA - The Massena Central varsity girls lacrosse team bounced back from a weekend loss to Potsdam Central by pulling away to a 19-8 NAC win over Canton Central on Monday at Mike Nicholas Field.
Courtney Manley sparked the Lady Raider offense with six goals. Jacelyn Lazore tallied five goals and an assist. Shannon Casey chipped in three goals and one helper. Trysten Burns, Alanna Pyke, Meagan Morgan and Mia Jermano, Mirabella Lazore contributed singletons while Devin Kelly and Ashlynn Olson each recorded solo assists as Massena (3-2, 3-1) pulled away from an 8-6 halftime lead for the win.
Rachel Huntley paced the Lady Golden Bears with a pair of goals.
Felicity Love stopped eight shots in the winning effort while Megan Howard logged eight saves in the loss.
In the other girls lacrosse matchups on Monday, Heuvelton Central handed Potsdam Central its first loss of the season in claiming a13-5NAC decision while OFA suffered a 16-2 non-league loss to India River.
Heuvelton 13, Potsdam 5: At Heuvelton, the visiting Lady Sandstoners were missing their top two offensive threats in senior Annette Rishe (injury) and Kalie Grant (illness) and it showed as the Lady Bulldogs were able to avenge a season-opening loss.
Jackie Sovie led the winning offense with six goals and two assists. Olivia St. Pierre notched four goals and one helper.
Hannah Thompson made four saves to backstop the win.
