Donald R. Gardner


Donald Robert Gardner, 69, of Flowery Branch, GA went to the Lord April 22, 2014, with his family by his side.

He was born to the late Edward and Rita Gardner on November 16, 1944 in Fort Covington, NY. Donald graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic High School and attended Albany Business College. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served honorably for four years.

He married Sheila Ann Crate in 1970 and they lived in Massena, NY for 29 years before relocating to Lillian, AL spending 14 years and then finally to Flowery Branch, GA.

Donald worked at the New York State Power Authority for 30 years holding various positions until reaching the position of senior control room operator until his retirement in 1999.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Amvets in Massena, NY and the American Legion Post 48 in Lillian, AL.

He loved spending time with his family and friends and giving to those in need.

Donald is survived by his wife Sheila; his daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Joe Girard of Flowery Branch, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Michele and John Coffman of Cumming, GA; grandchildren Savannah and Parker Girard; Jacob and Andrew Coffman; brother and sister-in-law William and Jeanne Gardner of North Bangor, NY; sister Judy Cooper of Fairmont, WV; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Theresa Gardner of Fort Covington, NY ; sister and brother-in-law, Cathy and Billy Riley of West Milford, WV and numerous nieces and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by his sisters Patsy Steen and Susan Terrano and his brother David Gardner.

A memorial service with Military honors will be held on June 9, 2014 at 11:00am at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
