MASSENA - Massena Memorial Hospital will be receiving a $179,370 grant this year, according to Chief Executive Officer Charles F. Fahd II.
Mr. Fahd told members of the hospitals Board of Managers that they were notified last week they would be receiving the 2013 Rural Health Care Access Development Program Grant, which brings in $179,370 for the period Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2014.
This is a grant that we get from the Department of Health every single year, Mr. Fahd.
However, he said, this years funding is higher than it has been recently.
Its substantially higher than weve gotten in the years past. Maybe in 2005 we received this amount. Over the years it went down 10, 15, 20,000 every year. Maybe 2013 we might have received about $120,000, so its back up again to a reasonably good number. So were very happy and pleased to get that grant, he said.
The funds can only be used for specific purposes, Mr. Fahd said, such as improving operational efficiencies or developing affiliations with community-based health care providers.
Funds cannot be used for salaries or benefits for personnel providing direct health care, he said.
