DA Rain: We’ve received over $137,000 in grants so far this year

CANTON - District Attorney Mary Rain said Sunday she has applied for and received two grants from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services totaling $137,600.

This money will partially pay salary and benefits for six of the eight attorneys in the office. Also, one grant will assist in paying for equipment for the office, such as, computers. “These grants will not only assist the county during fiscally difficult times but, more importantly, it will be instrumental in providing public safety because, it allows me to hire experienced attorneys to successfully prosecute violent criminals and drug dealers,” Ms. Rain said in a release. “To that end, I sent two staff members, at no cost to the county, to a training on finding and writing more grants so I may more effectively fight crime.”

Both grants were provided through the New York State Criminal Justice Service.
