St. Lawrence Central swept a pair from Colton-Pierrepont while Norwood-Norfolk settled for a split against St. Regis Falls in NAC East Division varsity softball double-headers on Wednesday.
In the other East Division twinbill, Chateaugay gained a sweep over Tupper Lake (8-1, 14-0) while the Franklin Academy posted an 8-4 Central Division win over Brushton-Moira.
For the second time during the 2014 Northern Athletic Conference Central Division softball season, the Brushton-Moira Panthers gave the Franklin Academy Huskies a game.
SLC 6-9, C-P 0-2: At Brasher Falls, senior Lindsey Thayer went the distance in both six-inning wins as the Lady Larries raised their unbeaten records to 9-0 overall and 7-0 atop the East standings.
Thayer had 16 strikeouts and walked none in the opening game where she allowed four hits. Senior Sabrina Johnson took the complete-game loss, fanning seven and walking three while giving up just five hits.
The Lady Larries were led offensively by Haleigh Agans, who went 2-3 with a run scored and RBI. Natasha Barnhart singled home a run. Riley Barton went 1-1 with two runs scored and an RBI as the Lady Larries built a 2-0 lead in the first inning then added three more in the second. Also contributing toward the winning offense were Hailee Weeger (run scored, RBI), Thayer (RBI), Chelsea Savage (RBI), Hailee Gauthier (run scored) and Liz Lynch (1-1, run scored).
Eve Whalen, Kathryn Miller, Andrea Aldous and Johnson connected for the C-P hits.
In the nightcap, Thayer notched 14 strikeouts and walked none while giving up four hits. Johnson (4K, 2BB) pitched four innings in taking the loss before giving way to Haylee Hennessy (2K, 3BB).
Thayer played a lead role offensively going 3-4 with three RBI and two runs scored as the Lady Larries built a 6-1 lead after four innings. Savage ws 2-4 with a double, two RBi and a runs scored while Bailee Gauthier went 2-4 with a double and two runs scored. Also contributing were Tera Douglas (1-2, run scored), Barton 1-3, run scored, 2RBI) and Lynch (run scored).
Whalen turned a change-up from Thayer into a long solo homerun to deep leftfield in the bottom of the first inning then drove in Hannah Hogle with a double in the sixth to spark the C-P offense. Hogle and Morgan Burns singled to account for the other hits.
The Lady Larries play at N-N on Friday at 3:30 p.m. while the Lady Colts (6-3) host Madrid-Waddington at Swift Field in South Colton starting at 4:30 p.m.
N-N 4-13, SRF 5-5: In Norfolk, the Lady Saints scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning, then held on for the win. Madison Austen (11 strikeouts, 5 walks, 1 hit batter) picked up the win as Gabi Cole (4 strikeouts, 3 walks) suffered the setback.
Kerrigan Rondeau helped lead the SRF girls to the win with a double and two runs batted in, while Makenzie Bazdaric and Harlie Gardner added two hits apiece. The other five hits for SRF were individual singles.
Kirstin Barkley went 2-3 for the Lady Flyers, who rebounded in game two, scoring five runs in the second to take the lead en route to posting a convincing win.
Cole (3 strikeouts, 3 walks) earned the victory, while Austen (3 strikeouts, 6 walks) suffered the loss.
Barkley paced the N-N bats with three hits, while Cortney Harvey singled and doubled during the victory. Cole and Katrina Durant both added two hits to the win.
For the Saints, Taryn Sheldon doubled and drove in two runs, while Rondeau also belted a two-bagger. Singles came from Bazdaric, Austen, Abby Duquette and Madison Greenwood.
N-N (7-3) is slated to host SLC on Friday starting at 3:30 p.m.
