MASSENA - A 52-year-old Massena man charged with 14 felony counts of possession of sex performances by a child was jailed on $5,000 bail Monday afternoon.
Village police charged Everette K. Drean of 80 Bayley Road, Building 2, Apt. 1, with the 14 felony counts following a lengthy investigation with assistance from federal agents and state police investigators. The charges stemmed from an investigation launched by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Police had seized four laptops, two cell phones and a 500 gig external hard drive during the execution of a search warrant in February. Police said a review of those devices found 14 images of obscene sexual performances by children on his computer.
Drean, in a question and answer style interview with village police Investigator Jordan Jenks, admitted he occasionally had viewed images of young females, estimating the girls on his computer were 10 or 11 years old/ Its not an every day thing, just once in a while, he told investigators.
He said he was looking at the images at a time when he was having some personal issues. I thought looking at that would help my sex life. It was stupidity. It was absolutely dumb on my part, he reported told Inv. Jenks.
Drean was arraigned Monday afternoon by Massena Village Justice Eric J. Gustafson and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.
