Madrid - Robert M. Murray, 81 of Buck Road, Madrid passed away Saturday May 10, 2014 at Fletcher Allen, Burlington surrounded by his loving family.
Friends and family are invited to call Wednesday, May 14, 2014 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Phillips Memorial Home, Madrid. A service will immediately follow calling hours at 8:00 PM with Rev. David Piatt officiating. Burial will take place Saturday, May 17, 2014 9:00am in Madrid Cemetery.
Robert was born in Heuvelton, N.Y. on April 07, 1933. He was the son of the late Robert and Mary (Boileau) Murray. Bob proudly served his country in the Army. Robert married Celia Cota on August 12, 1956 in Russell, NY.
After the service, Robert worked at the St. Regis Paper Company and then retired from the Town of Potsdam after serving for over 30 years.
Bob was a member of the Madrid American Legion, Marble City Muzzle Loaders Association as well as the Waddington Fish and Game Club. He had a great love for horses, nature and anything having to do with the great outdoors. For many years Robert was active in sulky harness racing and enjoyed camping, four wheeling and especially spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his wife, Celia; 5 children, Gary and Julie Murray of Potsdam, Darlene and Ed Parmeter of Waddington, Sherry and Bill Barkley of Madrid, Wendy and Bruce Deshane of Madrid, Kevin and Virginia Murray of Lisbon; 8 grandchildren; one great-grand child; two brothers of Madrid; one sister of Colton; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
