POTSDAM — Main Street Chocolates, Main St., is changing locations, but keeping its name.

The handmade chocolate shop is moving to 20 Main St., Norwood, by May 31.

Owner Jennifer M. Murphy, Madrid, said that although the business has enjoyed success in Potsdam for the past few months, she would like to be in a location that is more central to other towns, including Massena.

“The business did awesome in Potsdam,” she said. “It was a great start to the business.”

Another change to the business plan is to start selling electronic vapor cigarettes and the “e-juice” that goes with them.

Ms. Murphy said she wants to start selling another product during times when chocolate sales are slower.

“It’s an economical decision,” she said. “Chocolate is big during holidays, but we have to be economical and have another product, and e-cigarettes are a healthier option for the public.”

Ms. Murphy said she got the idea to start selling e-cigarettes from neighboring business Gourmet Vapor Electronic Cigarettes, 2 Main St.

She then researched the industry and decided that since the popularity of e-cigarettes is growing, especially among college students, she would try it. She will be selling the starter kits and will have 25 vapor flavors.

She said the business also will sell iTaste products, which is a popular brand of e-cigarettes.

Ms. Murphy said that she opened the chocolate shop in mid-November because she wanted a family-owned business so her two children, Nicholas Searcy, 13, and Kelia Searcy, 11, could help out around the store.

She said once she starts selling e-cigarettes, the children will help out only with the chocolate side of the business.
