Sgt. Major Roger David Debien, passed away May 11th at the Palmetto Baptist Medical Hospital in Columbia, S.C. Roger was born on May 8th 1948 in Massena, New York to Doris and Floyd Debien. Roger is survived by one son David of Austin, Texas. One granddaughter, Tallas and one grandson Ariel, also of Austin Texas.

Roger served in the U.S. Army from 1966 until he retired in 1990. ( 1st Calvary, 101st Air Cav. ) Roger was awarded the Bronze Star, The Meritorious Metal, The National Defense Service Metal and the Vietnam Service Metal with 2 stars. He served as Senior Sgt. On Fort Jackson for 15 years. After retirement, he worked as a police officier for the Columbia Police Dept. for 5 years.

Roger Married Gertrude Holland in Germany 1967, the marriage ended in divorce. A second marriage to Goldie Hawes of Columbia, S.C. in 2012, she predeceased him in 2013. Roger is survived by three brothers; Richard of Chasemills, N.Y., Ronald of Massena, N.Y., Gary of Piercefield, N.Y. Three sisters; Sally McComber of Norfolk, NY, Carolyn Greene of Hutchinson Island, Florida, and Marilyn Finnin of Brasher Falls, NY.

Full military honors will take place on Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina.
