STOCKHOLM - A tractor-trailer accident that nearly involved a school bus from St. Lawrence Central shut down a stretch of U.S. Route 11 for nearly seven hours Wednesday.
State police said the tractor-trailer was west bound on Route 11 at 4:20 p.m. Wednesday when the driver, William H. Eubanks, 34, of South Jonesboro, Ill. failed to notice a school bus slowing down in front of him.
In order to avoid striking the bus, Mr. Eubanks left his lane of traffic, went off of the road and came to rest after his tractor-trailer fell onto its side.
The bus, which was carrying a couple students from St. Lawrence Central was not involved in the accident and police said no injuries occurred.
Troopers said Mr. Eubanks was ticketed for unsafe lane change. He is due to appear in Stockholm town court at a later date.
State police were aided on the scene by members of the Tri-town Volunteer Rescue Squad and Brasher-Winthrop Volunteer Fire Department.
Following the accident a stretch of Route 11 was closed from the Route 11C intersection to the state Route 420 intersection until approximately 11:30 p.m.
