Potsdam baseball stays unbeaten in NAC; Massena edges Peru


Potsdam Central remained unbeaten in the NAC Central Division with a 14-4 win on the road over Gouverneur on Wednesday while Massena Central outlasted Peru 5-4 for its second non-league win in as many days.

Potsdam 14, Gouverneur 4: Trevor Keleher logged the win in relief of Conner Prosper who pitched three innings. Keleher fanned eight as the duo combined on a seven hitter. Keleher also helped his own cause going 4-5 with two doubles and four RBI. Prosper finished 4-5 with a double, Jacob Keleher went 3-5 with three RBI while Will Coleman smacked a two run homerun in the seventh and drilled a RBI single. Ben Miller (2-3), Andrew Ace (1-5), and John Fetcie (1-1) also contributed.

For Gouverneur, Dan Mullin (single), Braden Fenlong (RBI singlo), Dylan Gibson (RBI single), Aaron McEathron (RBI single), Dustin Bullock (single), Ryan Gibson (single), and Derek Dowling (single) led the way.

Massena 5, Peru 4: In Peru, the Raiders (8-1, 6-1) trailed 4-3 heading into the sixth inning before producing solo runs in each of their last two at-bats to come away with the win.

Senior southpaw Tyler Haas went the distance for the win, striking out eight and walking two while limiting Peru to just five hits. Blake Altizer took the loss in relief of starter Josh Robinson.

Bailey Hewlett sparked the Massena offense with a two-run single in the fourth that put the Raiders ahead 3-1 and an RBI-triple in the sixth that brought home the tying run. Isaiah Dillabough singled to open the seventh and scored what would hold up as the game-winning run in front of a two-out single by Jacob Vierno, who finished with two hits. Isaac Ward singled and doubled in the winning effort. Josh Manley (RBI) and Devin Paige (2 runs scored) also struck for two hits each.

Mitch Cunningham tripled and scored a run for Peru. Altizer singled and drove in two runs while Andy Kenussle singled and scored once.

In the lone other NAC Central baseball game played Wednesday Canton outlasted Salmon River 14-10 while Franklin Academy at OFA was postponed. The only NAC East matchup saw Norwood-Norfolk beat Tupper Lake 14-3.

Canton 14, Salmon River 10: A eight-run fourth inning helped the Bears to a 13-3 lead as Avery Slack went 3-4 with a double and Jake Corbine recorded a 4-5 effort with two doubles to lead the way. Francesco Palumbo (2-4, double), Alex Hayes (1-3 double), Bradon Dombrose (1-3) and Alden Slack (1-3) all contributed as Hayes started and and finished the game after abrief relief appearance from Palumbo.

David Roundpoint ripped a double for Salmon River. Justin Bigness, Brandon Byington, and Brandon Burdash each singled.

N-N 14, Tupper Lake 3: At Vern Burrows Field, the Flyers took a quick 5-1 lead in the first inning and were ahead 9-1 before putting together another five-run outburst in the sixth.

RJ Bendt (5K, 0BB) went four strong innings to earn the win. Zach Benware (2IP, 0K, 0BB, 0H) and Tristen St. Andrews (1IP, 1K, 1BB) combined to work the final three frames. Mitch Keniston took the loss.

Bendt helped the Flyer cause offensively going 2-3 with a double and two runs scored. Peter Jarvis and Kyler MacIntire both singled, doubled and scored a run while Zeb Brown singled and scored a run as well.

Anson Gagnier and Ty Trudeau both singled and scored for the Lumberjacks.
