CANTON Oral Nick Hillary, accused of murdering Garrett J. Phillips, the 12-year-old Potsdam boy found suffocated and strangled to death in his home in 2011, pleaded not guilty in St. Lawrence County Court Friday.
Hillary, 39, since 2009 the head coach of the Clarkson University mens soccer team, was indicted by a grand jury on a charge of second-degree murder. He was sent to St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, without bail Thursday afternoon.
Clarkson placed him on administrative leave, according to Kelly O. Chezum, university vice president for external relations.
Hillarys attorney, Christopher Renfroe, entered the not guilty plea.
County Judge Jerome J. Richards sent Hillary back to St. Lawrence County jail on $75,000 cash or $150,000 bond.
