Bishop LaValley announces new priests for Massena parishes

MASSENA- A priest from India will be joining Sacred Heart and St. Lawrence parish in Massena as assistant pastor to the Rev. Donald Manfred in July.

The Rev. Tojo Chacko, who was named parochial vicar of the Church of Sacred Heart and St. Lawrence effective July 9, is from Geralds of Good News Mother Theresa Province, India.

His was one of seven assignments announced by Bishop Terry R. LaValley following a meeting last week with the Committee on Assignments.

St. Mary’s and St. Joseph’s parish in Massena will welcome a new pastor on July 9. Bishop LaValley announced that the Rev. Mark R. Reilly will be taking over for the Rev. Bryan D. Stitt, who has been serving as parish administrator since the end of December.

The Rev. Mr. Reilly currently serves as pastor of St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake with parishes at Lake Clear and Bloomingdale and mission in Gabriels.

The Rev. Mr. Stitt, who also serves as director of vocations and seminarians for the diocese, will return to his full-time vocation work with residence in the Malone Catholic Parishes.

In Franklin County, Father Garvin J. Demarais has been named pastor of St. Mary’s of the Fort Church in Fort Covington and St. Joseph’s Church in Bombay effective July 9. He has been on a medical leave of absence.

He replaces Father Martin E. Cline, who will become pastor of St. Cecilia’s Church in Adams with mission in Henderson effective July 9.
