Potsdam track teams swept by FA


POTSDAM - The Potsdam Central varsity boys and girls track teams both fell short on their home course to NAC rival Franklin Academy on Tuesday.


In the boys meet, the Sandstoners produced the majority of their points in the sprints as FA pulled away to a 166-60 decision. Ebuka Ononye anchored the Potsdam scoring with wins in both the 100 (11.2 seconds) and 200 (22.7 seconds) while Sam Lee accounted for the other individual first by pacing the 400 in 55.0 seconds.

The quartet of Ononye, Taylor Prosper, O’den Robertson and Dan Stone combined to lead the 400 relay in 45.7 seconds.


The Lady Sandstoners fashioned five first-place efforts in falling to the Lady Huskies 190-109. Maddie Drecshel led the Potsdam effort with wins in the 100 (13.1 seconds) and 200 (27.1 seconds). Madi Dow paced the 800 in 2:26.3 while Lauren Lucht claimed triple jump honors at 31’5.5”.

Potsdam other win came in the 400 rerlay where Macy Huckle, Vanessa LaRoe, Emma LoMastro and Ally Miller combined to post a time of 57.7 seconds.


In the final NAC golf matchup of the regular season, OFA clinched the Division I title with a sweep over host Madrid-Waddington and Potsdam Central at the Twin Brooks Golf and Country Club in Waddington.

Dillon Binion led all golfers with a 40 and teammate Conor Hannan carded a 41 as the Blue Devils posted a team score of 213 followed by M-W (223) and Potsdam (270).

Jeff Mott and Kaden Pickering anchored the M-W effort with 43’s.

Aidon Clouthier shot a 45 to lead the Sandstoners. Zach McDonald, Bailey Fregoe and Euto all shot 56 followed by Dan French with a 57.

The Sandstoners will now get set to host the 2014 Section 10 Championships at the Potsdam Town and Country Club starting on Friday with the team competition and ending with the medalist round on Saturday. Action gets underway at 9 a.m. both days. OFA enters as the defending champion.
